It's amazing the things we take for granted, like walking, talking, seeing, breathing. Recently I was reminded of how essential it was to Breathe. Being on vacation I decided to give my house a general clean. At approximately 10:25am I started dusting, rearranging furniture and washing windows. I then thought that this was the perfect opportunity to get rid of some clutter. So I sorted out my clothing into three pile, the everyday wear, the special occasions and the give away pile. I was feeling great!
By the end of all this it was about 5pm, had my shower and was ready to relax and just watch some TV. I started sneezing. I have always had problems with my sinus but never did I let it stop me from doing the things that needed to be done. The sneezing continued and a headache started. I took two paracetamol and settled into bed. I fell asleep.
I woke up in flurry, gasping for air, I couldn't breathe. Even with my mouth wide open ,air evaded me. I started pacing the room with the hope of improving my situation, it was of little use. My chest was hurting with every faint breath and I felt like I was choking. I started coughing. The coughing became uncontrollable and my headache returned. By this time, my husband Kesslon, who was asleep, awoken and in his stupor asked me to come back to bed. Using my hands I frantically tried to explained what was happening to me, after what seemed like an eternity, he got it. He became fully awake. As I gasped, he got dress then helped me to get dressed, he called a taxi and we were off.
In 10 minutes I was at the emergency room, where I was treated and cautioned about dusting. I also learnt that I had a mild trace of bronchitis and was placed on medication.
I always knew breathing is an essential part of living however that incident will ensure that I never forget it nor take it for granted.
